Thanks to all who responded, and it seemed the major response was
the following:
This is a problem with the way your mail is configured. Check the file
/etc/sendmail.cf. You should have a few lines which begin with CT
(assuming you are using Sun's sendmail). These define the known internet
domains for mail. Just add " br" to the last CT line, and restart
sendmail (if you are using frozen configuration files, you will have to
create a new one before starting the sendmail daemon).
I made the changes above and the problem went away.
