Thanks to all that responded. (too many to write names)
Just add the following lines in your rc.local file in the
/etc directory.

   #
   # start the screen saver for the console
   #
   if [ -f /bin/screenblank ]; then
           screenblank -d 180
   fi

The program /bin/screenblank must exist, it is contained in the
standard system distribution. See the online manual page for details
of screenblank.
