Last week, I posted about my inability to NFS-mount Ultrix 4.0 file
systems on a Solaris 2.3 client.
Kudos to Mike Iglesias <iglesias@draco.acs.uci.edu>, Charlie Orgish
<orgish@cascade.Stanford.edu>, and Ian Allen <aa610@freenet.carleton.ca>
for pointing out that Ultrix 4.0 RPC only permits a user to belong to a
maximum of seven groups.
Under Solaris 2.3, root belongs to ten groups by default. I've since
removed root from groups uucp, nuucp, and daemon, given I'm not running
uucp, and no files seem to be owned by group daemon(?!). Ultrix 4.0
file systems now mount without problem on the Solaris 2.3 client.
As an aside, would anyone care to comment on group daemon's lack of
file ownership ? User daemon too, for that matter. That very much
surprised me...
Thanks once again to all,
-----
