SUMMARY: Which Exabyte 8500 vs 8505

A few weeks ago I asked for opinions on which exabyte to buy and where
to buy it. We now have an 8505 with hardware compression and it's a
cracker! Very fast, faster than the old 8500 anyway, and so far very
reliable. It seems to dump 800 Megs of local disk in about 30 minutes.
It's a half height version so it looks sexy too!

On SunOS 4.1.3 it is possible to use the 8505 to write in non-compressed
mode and in 8200 mode by using different device names (rst0, rst8, rst16,
rst24) but you need to patch a kernal.

We got ours from datatrade, just cos they're our usual suppliers. Others
people suggested are:

Thanks to all who responded, too many to list.
