Thanks for the prompt replies. Seems like the SS2 wins by a short head. Esp.
if fitted with a SCSI-II SBUS card. The Classic seems to fall short on
throughput due to its lack of cache. But only by a small margin. No-one was
willing to quantify this exactly.
I should have mentioned that our application is mostly for a "read-only" NFS
server, so with lots of memory, disk I/O is not a major concern.
A hint appeared that maybe there's something coming shortly to fill the gap
below SS10....
