This is a wording bug in SC2.0.1's fpversion. It should have reported:
A SPARC-based CPU is available.
Mbus module's clock rate appears to be approximately 49.9 MHz.
Kernel says Mbus module's clock rate is 50.0 MHz.
Kernel says main memory's clock rate is 40.0 MHz.
Sun-4 floating-point controller version 0 found.
A TI TMS390Z50 SuperSPARC chip (FAB 3.x or later) is available.
A TI TMS390Z55 SuperCache appears to be present.
FPU's frequency appears to be approximately 50.0 MHz.
Use "-xcg92" floating-point option.
Hostid = 0x72305448.
and in SC3.0, an output similer to the one cited above will be
produced.

invoking fpversion on our SparcServer1000 (2 cpu's, 128MB, Solaris 2.2)
results in:
A SPARC-based CPU is available.
CPU's clock rate appears to be approximately 50.9 MHz.
Kernel says the CPU's clock rate should be 40.0 MHz.
Sun-4 floating-point controller version 0 found.
A TI TMS390Z50-based SuperSPARC chip is available.
FPU's frequency appears to be approximately 50.0 MHz.
Use "-xcg92" floating-point option.
Hostid = 0x8050085C.
Shocked by the second and third line I reinstall Solaris 2.2 on the
machine. Result: No change ! Again 50.9 against 40.0 MHz
My Question(s):
What consequences does this have for me, us and the machine ?
What can I do against it ?
