Sorry if it was not clear enough:
/var has its own partition about 50 MB.
du really dos not show _nothing_ but only that about 15 MB is used,
thus it cannot be filled by any program such as mail or from patch
installation as some responders suspected.
It looks like some programs create files in /var/tmp then unlink
them but not close, so du shows that everything is OK but df says /var is full!
The most frequent answer was: mount or link /var to somewhere else like
/tmp and use tmpfs.
