SUMMARY: SPARCstation 10/FDDI problem

Everyone suggested installing the FDDI/S jumbo patch. From the patch
description, I'm not sure that this will solve my problem, but it
seems like a good first step in any event.

One person suggested installing:
100172-04 FDDI 1.1: fddi problems with SunOS 4.1.1, 4.1, 4.0.3
but I'm not sure how that relates to 100706-4 which is the FDDI/S
jumbo patch. I'm looking into this.

No one had a similar problem.

We have a SPARCstation 10 running 4.1.3 with an FDDI interface on bf0.

The FDDI ring has only two devices on it -- this SPARCstation 10 and a
Synernetics LANplex. Connected to the LANplex are many traditional
thinwire ethernet segments.

The problem we are seeing is that after the machine is up and running
for some random period (usually 2-10 days), the network delays between
the hosts on the ethernet segments and the SS10 on the FDDI go up
dramatically.

Ping -s from an ethernet-based host to the FDDI based SS10 typically
reports a round trip time of 0ms. However, when this problem occurs,
the ICMP echo delay goes up to around 40-200ms. When this happens,
all our workstations get bogged down since this SS10 is the main
server.

If the SS10 is rebooted the problem clears itself. If the LANplex is
rebooted, the problem also clears itself. This leads us to believe
that the act of leaving and re-entering the ring can solve the
problem.

Has anyone seen a similar problem? Does anyone know if there is a
SunOS patch to fix this?

Thanks,
