Dear Sun Managers,

Thank you, thank you so much to all who responded. I created a file
hosts.lpd as lots of managers suggested. I looked and looked and I don't
see any hosts.lpd on any of my Sun machines so, oh stupid me, I thought
Sun don't use that file. I also created a spool dir for the remote printer
as Kevin Mah suggested since most of our print files are large. The printer
works great now.

I have put the diskless hostnames on the hosts.equiv file, but it doesn't
work for the printer.

I know that the hosts.lpd file existed on DEC Ultrix machines, that's how
I set up remote printers on our DEC machines.

Thanks again, Aline...

Original question:

Dra Sun Managers,

Please help me detect why the remote printer would not print.
It's a QMS860 printer connected to the network via tcpip. It works great
on the machine that I created that queue. See the entry below:

mgcqmsa|Asize:\
        :if=/usr/spool/mgc/filters/mgcqmsa:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/mgc_qmsa:\
        :lf=/usr/spool/mgc_qmsa/log:\
        :lp=/dev/null_mgcqmsa:

I want to mount it remote on a diskless machine using the entry below:

mgcqmsa2|Asize:\
  :lp=:rm=mcm1:\
  :rp=mgcqmsa:\

this is the stat on lpc

qmsa:
        queuing is enabled
        printing is enabled
        1 entry in spool area
waiting for queue to be enabled on mcm1

How do I enable it? I checked all the protection of /usr/lib/lpd, /usr/ucb/lpr
... and they looked OK. What else do I miss?

thanks, Aline...
