Here's the summary of the answers I got to my request in comp.sys.sun.apps
with the subject: "Which Motif to buy for SunOS 4.1.3?".

My conclusion: Buy it from IXI. They even sell it to Sun.

Thanks again to all who sent me a reply -- Tom

So, ... I would recommned getting the the motif software for 4.1.3 from IXI.

We've used IXI's Motif to successfully port an application from SGI to Sun.
Their phone number is 44 223 236555. Other Motif on Sun vendors include
Quest and DEC.

Nothing

Different shared libraries could cause problems. Statically linked
libraries are safer and also avoid OSF licensing issues if your customer
doesn't buy Motif.

In article <27kgpaINNmgk@fstgds15.tu-graz.ac.at> you write:

if you use shared libs, you can (and will) get bitten by shared lib rev.
level mismatches. Make sure you use the same vendor that your customer
will use. Common vendor choices are: ICS, IXI and Bluestone.

nothing, but those apps are gonna be huge.

answered in 1), I think. A strategy that you can take is to supply your
own set of shared libs in your app installation hierarchy and set the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH in a wrapper shell script that invokes your app.
