A short one this Time ... My Question was:
> we are currently crunching a Number of heavy Jobs batch(1)ed by Shell
> Scripts. I investigated the Possibility of tuning Batch Queue Defs,
> but what I'ld really like to have is that the available Hosts (cur-
> rently five) would fetch their Jobs from a single Queue, instead of

I forgot to mention that this is for SunOS 4.1.2, one SS2 and several ELCs.
However, the Answer seems to be the same for a rather big Number of Plat-
forms: Get one of the "Network / Distributed Queue System" Variants (DQS,
NQS, MDQS, MNQS). I'm currently investigating DQS 2.1, which is designed
to work on: 386, Alpha, Convex, HP/UX, Irix, NeXT, RCS, RIOS, SunOS &
Solaris, UNICOS, and VAX. It has Hooks for other distributed Software -
especially PVM - as well. The official Dist Sites are:
ftp.scri.fsu.edu:/pub/dqs/DQS-2.1.tar.Z
ftp.chpc.utexas.edu:/packages/dqs/DQS-2.1.tar.Z
ftp.psc.edu:/pub/dqs/DQS-2.1.tar.Z
If everything works as advertised, I'll think about removing User Access to
the standard Job Queues *completely* - DQS Queues can be tuned a Lot finer
(Max and min Job Size Limits etc. etc.) than Un*x Queues.
