Yes, it is possible to get the disk to spin up on power on. Many thought as
I did that it was a jumper on the disk drive. This is not the case. On the
DEC drive it is an eeprom setting. The easiest way to change the setting is
to have a DEC system (VMS or Ultrix) and the apropriate software. One
respondent also had a program for a PC. This is the answer the describes
the solution that I used.

No, it's not a jumper. I think you do it in software (on a DECstation
running Ultrix) using the rzdisk program.
1) unmount the disk, eg rz2
2) /bin/rzdisk -c ask /dev/rrz2c
3) work your way through the disk drive parameters until you get to
page 37 on an RZ55 I think, where you will find
Spinup on power up
4) select change
