Summary to "fopen on /dev/tty fails"
>The fopen on /dev/tty is attempted whenever dump has a problem and needs to
>ask a y/n question. Something is causing an error when running from cron
>that does not occur when running from the command line. Look at other
>activities running at the same time and available swap as the two problems
>that we have seen the most often.
The dump did not fail at all from a shell at first but finally
did. The problem with the drive was a defective power cable. Thanks to
those who replied.
