SUMMARY:Re: Sun 4.1.3m machine crashes when asynch i/o is done

This is the summary and resolution to my problem with s Sun 670 server running
Sun0S 4.1.3m crashes when asynch i/o is done. I took Chuck's advice (email #2)
and installed DBE 1.3 with the same results, the system still crashed. Next, I
followed the advice of Hal that patch 100726 might resolve this problem. I then
searched for the patch #100726 through all my old sun-mangers email that I save
and came up with the patch #100726-05 as being the latest release. I requested
the patch from Sun. Once installed and kernel was reconfigured my problem was
resolved. Thanks Hal for the lead!! and thanks to all who responded!

The following were some of the email I received from the subscribes of the

We have a user who reports the same problem with asynch i/o on a 630 (sun4m).
I would be interested in any solutions you discover.

Tim, we saw some anych i/o problems when running Sybase 8-) on a
670-140 with a nearly "GENERIC" kernel. Our probelms were fixed
by the installation of Database Excellerator (DBE-1.3). Otherwise,
I don't have any particular expertise to offer. Good luck.

Best Regards,
Chuck

Known problem, I believe; there's a Sun patch available. If no one
volunteers it, tell me and I'll look it up.

there are a few patches for async i/o on 4.1.3; probably 100726 (i think)
is the most likely candidate.
