A much-overdue summary, but I wanted to try the suggestions before reporting
back to the net.
Problem #1 related to core files from in.consat. Patch 100272-05 appears
to fix this problem. Someone also suggested 100752-01, but it appeared to
be a fix for a problem I'm not having and since 100272 got rid of the core
files, I didn't apply 100752.
Problem #2 is defunct processes left by rpc.yppasswdd. Although I obtained
and installed the rpc.yppasswdd portion of 100564-05, it did not cure the
problem. Nor did altering the way I start rpc.yppasswdd as some suggested.
