Sorry for the delay in posting this summary. Soon after all the responses
were received, I left on vacation and didn't get a chance to post the
summary until now.
The was no magic involved here. Most everyone rightfully pointed me at the
patched for rpc.lockd. Incendentally I already had patch level -08 installed.
For some strange reason though, the rpc.lockd executable was the original
from SunOS 4.1.2 and the rpc.lockd included with the patch hadn't yet been
installed although it was sitting in /usr/etc. As soon as the rpc.lockd
executable matched the kernel, all worked fine.
