I received the following responses, all slight variations on a theme:
1) Five minutes ago I got a FAX of the M2654SA spec sheet:
Unformatted capacity 2419
No. of disks 12
No of Read/Write heads 21
Track capacity 52864
No of cylinders 2179
No of sectors 88
2) We recently installed this disk, and here are the parameters the technician
used:
disk_type = "Fujitsu M2654SA" \
: ctlr = SCSI : ncyl = 2170 : acyl = 2 : pcyl = 2178 : nhead = 21 \
: nsect = 88 : rpm = 5400 : bpt = 45056
I assume this is the info he got from the supplier.
3) This is the format.dat entry we use:
disk_type = "Fujitsu M2654SA" \
: ctlr = MD21 : fmt_time = 4 : ncyl = 2174 : acyl = 2 : pcyl = 2197 \
: nhead = 21 : nsect = 88 : rpm = 5400 : bpt = 52864
This gives 2174*21*88 = 4017552
We called Fujitsu directly to get these numbers (we were given some bogus
parameters originally).
After experimenting with various combinations of these I eventually went with
number 2.
My thanks to Dave Martin, Mark Gastel, Daniel Nesmith and Matthew Lee.
