Solution

Use
/usr/etc/setsid -b /usr/openwin/bin/xview/cmdtool <options>

Instead of
/usr/openwin/bin/xview/cmdtool <options>

The setsid is necessary due to a bug in OW2.0 which was corrected in OW3.0
