---------------------------- Original Query ----------------------------------

I have recently been charged with the responsibility of connecting the various
hardware platforms that co-exist within our company andup to this point things
have been fairly easy. Now comes the part that I have no idea how to deal with.

Is there a way to have mail flow between a Novell network and a Sun network ?
I have been told that the Novell mail system is based on MHS which is neither
X.400 or SMTP based. Is this true ? If so is there an available mail gateway
that can be used to provide seamless integration of the mail facilities
between the Novell and Sun networks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, once again the list comes through.

Concensus of opinion seems to be to use a combination of Charon and Pegasus
mail, both of which are available from a number of ftp sites and both apparently
PD software.

Charon apparently requires a dedicated PC, but that should not be a major
problem.

A couple of people suggested alternatives to this combination such as:

1) Lotus cc:mail which has an MHS<->SMTP capability built in.
2) Wordperfect Office - same thing.
3) Novell SMTP NLM.
4) UGATE ( UUCP connection from SUN to Novell )
5) XGATE

Of course these solution actually cost money, and we all know management
wants something from nothing.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply with the helpful info., if there
is anyone who wants the actual text of the replies, ( too large to post here )
e-mail me and I will be glad to send it on.
