SUMMARY: SS2 with FSBE/S SBus Card crashes on boot

From: Marc Sheldon (ms@war.Germany.EU.net)

Ok, i have it up and running. It seems that either SunOS 4.1.3 is required
(this is what it says in the manuals, even though i was told otherwise by
our sales rep) or you need a two line patch to get it to work with SunOS
4.1.2. It won't work with any release before that.

Here's the relevant answer with the patch:

Problem: A SPARC 2 with an FSBE/S card installed (Fast SCSI-2
w/ buffered ethernet, X1053A) panics when loading
                SunOS 4.1.2 from CD.

Sun Solution: Sun says that both the FSBE/S (X1053A) and the SBE/S
                (X1054A) require either:

                A) A 2-line patch to SunOS 4.1.2, or
                B) SunOS 4.1.3

If you are trying to boot off of CD, you will need 4.1.3,
or you will need to remove the board, boot on CD, apply
the patch, and then reinstall the board.

There is also a couple of bugs on this.
Bug ID 1068118 and 1076185.
Here's the info:

The SBE/S is not officially supported in sun4c and does not work
with sun4c running 4.1.2 or earlier. It works fine in a sun4c
running 4.1.2 if you add a couple of lines to the file
/usr/sys/sun4c/openprom_xxx.c around line 63:

    { "lebuffer", sbus_decode_regprop, sbus_encode_reg, sbus_match },
    { "dma", sbus_decode_regprop, sbus_encode_reg, sbus_match },

and make/boot a new kernel. It works fine in sun4c running 4.1.3
without any patches.

The FSBE/S is officially supported in sun4c and works "out of the box"
if you're running 4.1.3 . You'll need to apply the two-line patch
of you're running 4.1.2 .
