As some said: "This list came through with flying colors!"
Original problem:
A document that printed ok with NP 1.0 failed to do so after upgrading to
version 2.0 . Sun says " Might be a compatibility problem..."
I received som five or six replies, where the most common sugesstion was to make
sure that I had the 'small_openwin' installed that comes with NP 2.0.
Well, that was easily dispatched, as I did a full installation of NeWSprint from
the CD. Another common answer was to use the latest version of NP (C, I think).
But then, Celeste Stokely (celeste@xs.com) gave me a good clue!

Of course!
When I used 'file' on the rasterfile it revealed:
rasterfile, 645x407x8 run-length byte encoded image
It was captured with either 'screendump' or 'capture' in Framemaker.
So when I used 'rasfilter8to1' it printed just fine!
It seems like NP 1.0 simply ignored the fact that it was an eight-bit rasterfile,
or did the filtering on its own.(?)
Thanks to all who replied, and especially to Celeste Stokely.
