Hello again !

There were many solutions provided:
1) Use nslookup. The querytype has to be changed to ptr or any and the
IP address has to be reversed.
Example:
% nslookup
Default Server: ipsi.darmstadt.gmd.de
Address: 141.12.39.2
> set q=ptr
> 2.2.1.129.in-addr.arpa
Server: ipsi.darmstadt.gmd.de
Address: 141.12.39.2
2.2.1.129.in-addr.arpa host name = andy.bgsu.edu
>
You can also use this alias to get the host's symbolic name :
alias ptr "(" echo set nodefname ";" echo set q=PTR ";" \
echo \!\$:e.\!\$:r:e.\!\$:r:r:e.\!\$:r:r:r.in-addr.arpa ")" "|" nslookup
[ Works just fine for me. ]
2) Find the PD package called "dig". [ I did not try it. ]
3) Take the PD package called "host". You can get it from
spi.ens.fr in pub/unix/syst/host.tar.Z (anonymous ftp). [ I did not try it. ]
4) Find the PD package called "domain". [ I did not try it. ]
5) If you want to know something about the net then you should do this
(suggested by Chuck Davisson) :
You can:
1. telnet nic.ddn.mil (ip address 192.112.36.5
2. Type: whois
3. Type: net ip address of the net you want info on.
Here's an example:
Whois: net 137.39.0.0
UUNET (NET-UUNET-WAN)
3110 Fairview Park Drive, Suite 570
Falls Church, VA 22032
Netname: UUNET-WAN
Netnumber: 137.39.0.0
Coordinator:
Partan, Andrew (AP25) asp@UUNET.UU.NET
+1 703 204 8000 +1 703 204 8001
Domain System inverse mapping provided by:
NS.UU.NET 137.39.1.3
UUNET.UU.NET 137.39.1.2, 192.48.96.2
UUCP-GW-1.PA.DEC.COM 16.1.0.18
UUCP-GW-2.PA.DEC.COM 16.1.0.19
NS.EU.NET 192.16.202.11
Record last updated on 09-Aug-91.
Would you like to see the known hosts on this network?
[ I tried it but I wanted the info about a host, not a net. ]
6) Mark Mann, John Valdes and Per Jonsson sent me their own programs. [ I did
not try those ones, but if anybody wants to have them, send me a note. ]
7) Find the PD package called "nslook". [ I did not try this. ]
8) Take "nsq" from guardian.cs.psu.edu in /pub/DNS.Talk/src/nsq. [ I also did
not try this. ]
