SUMMARY: shared libs, -ldl and 4.1.2

My initial send of this didn't work so here it goes again (its been a long
week).

The answer was that -ldl needed to be added to the "ld" lines in the
shlib.etc Makefile.

This has apparently been mentioned a lot recently so I'm not sure how I
missed it until now. Thanks to the _many_ _many_ people that replied.
