We just took delivery of a FastPort although it has not been tested beyond a
couple of pages--it does work for driving the following combinations:
serial HP,
parallel PostScript
parallel HP
serial PostScript
So we are happy enough with it for meeting our primary objectives: 1)
allow location of the printer anywhere in the building (not near a workstation)
and 2) NewsPrint compatibility.
One drawback, that is a bit painful with NeWSprint and probably Transcript
as well: you don't get any status back from the printer so you won't
know if you are out of paper or whatever until you go to the printer.
If it is a PostScript printer then you will not get back PostScript errors!

Just thought I would comment that support at microplex is great.
I've sent email and got responses in about 2 hours . I've had
no trouble in calling and getting the tech support people.
We tested both Milan and Microplex and went with microplex.
If you ftp to microplex.com they have a m200v2 directory that
contains a copy of their manual that comes with their box.

NOTE: I was communicating with fff@ludwig.microplex.com (Fred Fierling)
and was informed the info from their anon ftp server is moving to
ftp.uu.net:/vendor/microplex.

The HP IIIsi has an optional interface board from HP to sit on Ethernet,
which can then do Novell, Ethertalk, TCP/IP, etc.
Works great.
