Received several replies in a very short time.
Jeff Kays info was exactly correct - I fetched TOP v3.0 from
/pub/top at eecs.nwu.edu and built it on the 670MP system
with no problems. For processes in runnable state, it even lists
the number of the cpu on which they are running. The README files
have explanation of what is required to run correctly on MP and non-MP
If you want to run top on an MP (sun4m) system, use top version 3.0
and Configure/make/install it on that system.
