Well, for once Sun-Managers fell thru. But after playing telephone tag
with Maxtor "Automated Technical Support" and "Faxback" lines as well
as talking to technical support at Emulex, I got a working format.dat
for the Maxtor XT-8380E, so, for those that collect them:
disk_type = "Maxtor XT8380E" \
: ctlr = MD21 \
: ncyl = 1623 : acyl = 2 : pcyl = 1632 : nhead = 8 : nsect = 51 \
: rpm = 3600 : bpt = 31410
Now, can anyone explain to me the magic that allows you to determine that
athough the physical drive is set up for 1632 Cyl, and 52 sec/track
you can only use 1625 Cyl, and 51 sec/track?
