I heard from about twenty sites. The only consensus I could extract
was for sites already using 8mm to stick with it and for sites just
starting to go with DAT. Most people were relatively happy with what
they happened to be using.
Our decision is to stick with the 8mm technology, but go to the higher
capacity 8500. So we'll be buying three more 8mm drives (and about
fifteen 1 GB disks). We still intend to go to optical disk as soon as
that technology is reliable and a little more cost-effective.
