SUMMARY: mbstowcs needs dynamic libraries?

Thanks for a quick and helpful response. Several people pointed out
that the MIT X11R5 distribution already have comments on the subject
in the and a stub dl*() implementation. See the release notes for
X11R5, section section 3.4 (System Pitfalls), paragraph 4.

(I should have read this already, of course, and I thought I had...
oh well.)

The consensus seems to be that it is indeed sun's fault, and that the
two ways of fixing it are a) link dynamically to get the dl library
and b) link in the stubs, or even put them in the C library to get
completely rid of the problem.

Many thanks to:

(I am sure several others will answer as they get my original message,
too... thanks to all of you as well, and the rest of the Sun-Managers!)
