My query was:
We have a sendmail-aliases problem in SunOS 4.1.1. on a Sparc IPC. A
summary of the problem description is below:
The problem sparc has a subsidiary sendmail.cf. All works fine if we
use mail as user-front end for posting mail messages. But if some
program, does some like below, e.g. emacs.
cat /tmp/message | /usr/lib/sendmail -oi -t -oem -odb -v
Yet two messages are generated, one seems correct, the other announces
several errors.
Solution:
The problem is introduced at SunOS 4.1 where Sun changed the
behavior of sendmail. They call it the remote mode, which is in effect
when the spool directory is mounted from another machine. Sendmail
then does always immidiately forward its mail to the sendmail on the
machines where the spool originates.
Sun introduced this because they don't trust the users in configuring
their sendmail daemons.
One gets the pre SunOS 4.1 behavior of sendmail if you comment out the
source of all failure, the remote mode. (OR macro in sendmail.cf)
