The fellow sysadmin for whom I posted this has solved his problem thanks
to the help from the net. The info he put together for other soals braving
this task is as follows (I also pass on his heart-felt thanks to all
respondants):
1. Make a Data Communications Equipment to Data Transmission Equipment
cable by crossing pins 2 and 3, connecting pin 4 to 5 and 6 to 20
on the printer side, and running pins 1 and 7 straight through.
2. Check the set up of the LNO3R; here is what i used.
a. 4800 baud
b. 8 data bits.
c. Parity disabled.
d. XON/XOFF enabled.
e. Restraint normal.
3. Connect the printer to the SUN 4. i used the second serial port.
4. Edit the file /etc/printcap; the following printer capability
entry worked for me. One should not need to reboot after changing
the printcap file.
# Postscript printer driven by Transcript software.
# LNO3R
