SUMMARY client/server ratio continued again!

Sorry Folks,

I don't know what's happening but my summary of the client/ratio responses
were truncated again! This will be my last attempt. If anybody wants the
entire thing repeated drop me a note. If there are more than 10 requests
I'll re-post the entire thing to sun-mangers.

The remainder (hopefully) of the file follows. It should end with a thank you
to the respondents.

(Oops, I just discovered what was wrong. I was reading the edited file into the
mail program with the "~r filename" command and there were a couple of lines
with only a single period in the line indicating excerpted passages and the
mail program interpreted these as the end of data to be included. Hopefully
now that I've removed lines of that nature all is well.)

We sell a tool called EtherView which includes a tool to measure NFS load
(calls/sec) and performance (average response time for each call) over
an extended period of time (such as a working day).

This tool will let you look at your load and performance as a function of
time interval, server, client and NFS proc. You could use this tool to see
how the load varies during a day and what happens to the response time.
If your average response time gets significantly worse during the day as load
increases then your server might be overloaded. In addition, it will let
you see how the server load is apportioned between various clients etc.

You may be helped by the (admittedly simple and undocumented) program
'fsstats' which i wrote. It's more or less a combination of (parts of)
nfsstats, iostat, netstat and vmstat. It's available with anonymous
ftp from loke.idt.unit.no in the pub/ directory.
